Welcome to the new electronic edition of the Informer. By moving from
a printed quarterly newsletter to an electronic edition we can provide
you with more information about what is happening in the Altadena Station
and around Altadena regarding law enforcement in a much more timely
manner.
Our goal is to have frequent up-dated from our Captain, Joe Gutierrez
as well as reports from other Station personnel.
We will keep you informed about issues such as where we are on the building
of a new Station, constant up-dates on events like National Night Out
and information on our up-coming Summer Concert Series (see related
article).
We would like to have your input as well. Drop us a line anytime at
www.info@altadenasheriffs.org.
And, please check back often for the latest information about the Altadena
Sheriff’s Station and SSGA.
Thanks!
Bob Klomburg
CAPTAIN’S
MESSAGE
On behalf of the
men and women of your Altadena Sheriff’s Station, I extend greetings.
We are now in the second half of our new millennium’s first decade.
It is a pleasure to report to you, the residents and visitors of Altadena,
that we remain among the safest communities in southern California.
Within the beauty and serenity of our great community, people can feel
safe while living, working, or just taking a casual stroll in our peaceful
neighborhoods. Altadena remains one of the best-kept secrets in the
southland.
The year 2005 did not produce any extraordinary crime statistics as
compared to 2004 and the previous 4 years. Our measurement of year-to-year
statistics indicates about a 3% decline in overall crime. Most crime
categories were either below or about the same as last year. The one
exception was in the area of grand theft auto. This was especially true
over the first six months of the year. After the re-deployment of resources
and some undercover operations, the trend was corrected.
One of the communities’ top concerns continues to be gang related
issues. We are committed to working with our community partners and
minimizing this problem with both proactive and reactive responses.
We will both support programs of intervention as well as employ aggressive
suppressive strategies.
Our status as a safe community does not come without the fantastic support
of the community. The Sheriff’s Station’s strong ties with
volunteer organizations such as: The Sheriff’s Support Group of
Altadena, The Altadena Sheriff’s Station Clergy Council, and the
Community Advisory Committee has strengthened our lines of communication
with the community and has assisted us in focusing on what is important
to the community. We look forward to continuing this collaborative relationship
and strongly encourage those that are interested in volunteering toward
our mutual goal of keeping our community safe to consider joining any
of these organizations, or simply becoming a volunteer at the Sheriff’s
Station.
Thank you for your interest in your community as well as this web site.
Feel free to contact our Community Relations office at (626) 296-2104
should you have any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Joe L. Gutierrez, Captain
Station Commander

HEADS UP ANOTHER VIGOROUS
SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
FOR 2006
We are entering our seventh season of summer concerts
at Farnsworth Park this year, and the lineup and variety should be plenty
to please all. Returning are some of our jazz favorites: Valarie King,
Brian Hughes, theAltadena Big Band. And coming to a second deason each:
Cody Bryant with his country-western show and Those Manning Boys with
their songs from the public houses of Ireland.
Rounding out the year will be out huge fund-raiser concert
with the returning Platters. All in all this should be another fun year
of music under the stars in the best place in the County even on the
worst day of the year (we mean heat and smog).
All concerts this year are on Saturday. All concerts start
at 7 p.m. and are over by 9. All admissions are free. Does it get any
better than this? Come see for yourself. Check the schedule on this
website, just click on the star that says Summer Concert Series.
